The Crossing Machine with Jordan Zdimizrovic: Elvis Costello’s The Juliet Letters and new renditions for string quartet of Fleetwood Mac - a daring fusion of classical elegance and rock poetics

A captivating reimagining of The Juliet Letters, the groundbreaking 1993 collaboration between iconic British singer-songwriter Elvis Costello and the acclaimed Brodsky Quartet. Described by Costello as “a song sequence for string quartet and voice… It’s a little bit different. It’s not a rock opera. It’s a whole new thing.” — this genre-defying masterpiece explores love, loss, and longing through an evocative blend of classical strings and contemporary lyricism.

Melbourne’s genre-bending string quartet, The Crossing Machine, joins forces with powerhouse vocalists Jordan Zdimirovic and The Voice finalist Annie Jones to breathe new life into this modern classic. Renowned for their dynamic performances and genre-spanning versatility, The Crossing Machine has captivated audiences across Australia with eight seasons of The Juliet Letters and now adds a fresh twist, featuring electrifying string arrangements of Fleetwood Mac favorites by acclaimed Australian composer Matthew Hindson.

Formed in 2018, The Crossing Machine seamlessly bridges the worlds of modern classical, opera, jazz, choral, pop, and rock. Collectively, its members have collaborated with global icons such as Alice Cooper, Roger Daltrey, Robbie Williams, KISS, Il Volo, Andrea Bocelli, and Luciano Pavarotti. Their orchestral credentials include performances with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, and the Australian Pops Orchestra.

Prepare for an unforgettable evening where classical finesse meets contemporary energy — a sonic journey that transcends musical boundaries.

This event is part of the fortyfivedownstairs Chamber Music Festival, curated and directed by Coady Green.
